Researchers discover the microbiome's role in attacking cancerous tumors. Researchers have discovered which gut bacteria help our immune system battle cancerous tumors and how they do it. The discovery may provide a new understanding of why immunotherapy, a treatment for cancer that helps amplify immune response, works in some cases, but not others. The findings show combining immunotherapy with specific microbial therapy boosts the immune system to recognize and attack cancer cells in three forms of cancer. Share:      Researchers with the Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases at the Cumming School of Medicine (CSM) have discovered which gut bacteria help our immune system battle cancerous tumors and how they do it. The discovery may provide a new understanding of why immunotherapy, a treatment for cancer that helps amplify the body's immune response, works in some cases, but not others. 7 Ways to Make A Alkaline Diet Benefit You

7 Ways to Make A Alkaline Diet Benefit You The premise of an alkaline diet is that the nutrients found in supplements, alkalizing foods, and water can balance the body. These vitamins, minerals, and herbs infuse the body with new energy, vitality, and better health. Alkaline foods and water must be consumed to provide nutrients the body needs to neutralize acids and toxins in the blood, lymph, tissues, and cells. When pH balance inside the body is 'out of balance.'  the body tries to correct that sensitive pH balance. That process shows up as uncomfortable symptoms, including colds, flues, allergies, diseases, viruses, and bacteria. When the body's pH level is unbalanced, almost any area of the body can be affected. For example, when the nervous system is affected by uneven pH balance, it shows up in the form of depression. When the cardiovascular system is impacted, we could have heart disease or experience other heart-related problems, including thickening and hardenin...

Plant-based diets shown to lower blood pressure even with limited meat and dairy.         Consuming a plant-based diet can lower blood pressure even if small amounts of meat and dairy are consumed too, according to new research from the University of Warwick. Published online by a team from Warwick Medical School in the  Journal of Hypertension  today (25 July), they argue that any effort to increase plant-based foods in your diet and limit animal products is likely to benefit your blood pressure and reduce your risk of heart attacks, strokes, and cardiovascular disease. They conducted a systematic review of previous research from controlled clinical trials to compare seven plant-based diets, several of which included animal products in small amounts, to a standardized control diet, and the impact that these had on individuals' blood pressure. Plant-based diets support high consumption of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds, limiting ...

National survey data currently shows that approximately 17% of women and 10% of men report having a history of major depressive episodes (MDEs) in their lifetimes. But these data are subject to "recall error," or the tendency of people to forget or misreport their health histories when taking a survey. Researchers led by Jamie Tam, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management, created a simulation model to ...
